Farewell to the Critic, and Welcome to Antz
Sep 10th
Due to unforeseen circumstances, Eric Robinson (“The Austin Critic”) will no longer be writing for this site. You can read more about it in his post here. Although his time here was short-lived, he was an invaluable asset to the site, and will be greatly missed.
Fortunately, Anthony Moores (known as “Antz”) has expressed interest in writing for the site, and he will be added to the team. Expect to see some posts from him coming soon. Here’s a quick bio he provided:
Anthony was first exposed to anime back in the days of Dragon Ball Z. Through the years he kept watching whatever showed up on TV in Canada, which wasn’t very much, and only recently got into collecting DVDs. Nowadays he compulsively buys crap that he’ll probably never get around to watching while writing his own blog that no one actually reads. He mostly reviews anime and manga, and sometimes games when he gets around to playing them.

Lack of Updates, Blame StarCraft II and Disney
Aug 11th

For the next few weeks, there will be a decrease in the number of updates from me. The Otaku in Review Podcast posts will continue, but I will be absent for the next two episodes (Scott will have someone else fill in for me) due to my upcoming trip to DISNEY WORLD!
More importantly, StarCraft II has consumed my life, just as the original StarCraft did over a decade ago. I’m still keeping up with anime that’s airing this season, but haven’t had time for much else because I am hopelessly addicted to this amazing game.
But, there are some things to look forward to here at JanaiBlog. Gina has another manga review coming up, and Eric will be writing reviews of some of the Summer 2010 anime once they finish airing. Be on the lookout for them in the coming weeks.
October will be an exciting month, as both Gina & I will be posting a series of reviews related to a particular series we both love very much. What series could I possibly be talking about? Well, you’ll just have to wait to find out!
As for me, expect my review of the visual novel Kira Kira to be up fairly soon. I’ve also pre-ordered Corpse Princess (Shikabane Hime) so I might just have a review of that when I’m done watching it. For the iPhone gamers out there, keep an eye peeled for my upcoming review of the Cave shoot-em-up Espgaluda II in the not-so-distant future.
- Janai
Greetings!
Jul 1st
Hello everyone, pleased to meet you all.
My name is Jiyoon Kim also known as Aldotsk. Most people know by my user name in various sites, and mIRC chats – and some don’t know me. From here on, I’ll be giving my proper introduction as a new blogger of JanaiBlog. First of all, I’d like to thank Janai and his crew for accepting me as a reviewer. My job is to review with a perfect quality so that you, as a viewer and a reader would not be disappointed in series that I recommend.
Aldotsk, what will you review?
I am pretty much an open minded person, and also I am like everyone else. A gamer, and also fan of anime, and manga. My other hobbies are drawing, making models, buying hobby toys, and listening to music. Other than that? Well, I do love watching Korean soap-operas and movies. My most reviews will be based upon anime, manga, and video games since that what I was hired for. My other reviews will be mostly focused upon figures, models, and Gundam models as well. My next review would be based upon Korean soap-operas as well. Do not worry, those shows won’t bite~!
New Writers
Jun 30th
JanaiBlog is happy to announce that we have three new writers on our team! Please welcome…
- Jimmy Blocksom (DJTyrant)
Jimmy is a freelance blogger and recent college graduate (Information Technology and Game Design) who has written about anime, manga, and gaming for over seven years. He has a long history within the gaming industry working within retail, but also covering E3. His love of anime started in 2002 when he was introduced to Love Hina and (oddly enough) Golden Boy, the following year he attended Anime Expo and the rest is history. Outside of writing he enjoys podcasting and had a video game talk show for a year, and has appeared on numerous anime and video game related podcasts. Outside of gaming and anime, Jimmy loves designing and coding websites. - Jiyoon Kim (Aldotsk)
Jiyoon Kim is an artist, gamer, and a college student. He is currently majoring in biology, but that doesn’t stop him from reviewing video games, anime, manga and live-action dramas. Jiyoon reviews whatever he has watched and played. - Eric Robinson (theaustincritic)
Eric Robinson is an aspiring writer who currently runs the blog The Austin Critic, a site dedicated to anime and manga reviews. Here on JanaiBlog, Eric focuses mostly on writing anime and manga reviews. He is also the Editor in Chief of Manga Jouhou.
We’re glad to have them on the team and look forward to their posts. For more information, please check out The Team page and don’t forget to follow them on Twitter!
Looking for More Writers

UPDATE 6/28: We have found all the writers we’re looking for, and will be posting an announcement in a few days. Thanks to all who applied for showing interest in the site!
Coming Soon: Top 10 Greatest RPGs
May 12th
Coming soon, I’ll be starting a series of posts where I rank my 10 favorite RPGs of all time. There will be one post per day, and each post will cover one game. Here’s what you can expect from this:
- One game per franchise – While I could easily place two or three Final Fantasy games in this list, that just isn’t fair to the other franchises. So, there will only be one game per franchise in this list.
- I can only talk about games I’ve played – There’s tons of great classics out there, many of which I haven’t played. While I’m sure that Earthbound, Phantasy Star, and Valkyrie Profile are excellent games, I unfortunately never got around to playing them, so I can’t include them in this list.
- Yes, this will be JRPGs only – I don’t care if the title is misleading. I’m not changing it to “Top 10 Greatest JRPGs.” Why? Because it’s my list, and I don’t want to. I was never a fan of WRPGs, for reasons explained here.
- My opinion – After all, this is all my opinion – not an objective overview. If you don’t like my choices, then go ahead and make your own list.
This will begin on Monday, May 17. I’ll make one post each weekday (Monday-Friday) until Friday, May 28.
This should be a fun little project, and I encourage everyone to check out the games that I list in this, especially the older classics that may go under-appreciated. Stay tuned and subscribe via RSS if you want to keep up with the updates!
Special Announcement! New Game Reviewer
Mar 7th
JanaiBlog is proud to announce that we now have a video game reviewer! Raymond Reilly is an aspiring game designer and student. He is currently working on several projects spanning both digital and traditional games.
Here on JanaiBlog, Raymond will be focusing mostly on game reviews, especially on games that may be overlooked by many gamers. He will debut with his review of the PSN downloadable game Flower, coming very soon!
From now on, the bulk of video game reviews found on the site will be done by Raymond, although Janai will still be doing game reviews from time to time as well. You can follow Raymond on Twitter @rcreilly.
Server Move & New Layout
Feb 24th
As you most likely have noticed by simply coming here, the blog now has a new layout! The “Redoable Lite” layout I had previously was nice, but nearly everyone on WordPress uses it, so I just had to stop.
What’s even more exciting is I have finally transferred this blog over to a custom WordPress installation. Basically that means I’m running the WordPress source code off of a server that’s not WordPress’s, which opens up a world of new options and much more freedom (for example, I can now embed the Otaku in Review Podcast episodes in my blog posts).
That’s about it for now. I have some anime-related blog posts coming up, in addition to JanaiBlog’s first manga review and another new writer announcement. Stay tuned!
Special Announcement! New Manga Reviewer
Feb 17th
Until now, JanaiBlog has been a one-man operation. I’ve done a bunch of anime and video game reviews by myself, but I never got around to putting any manga reviews up here. I’m proud to announce that my good friend Gina Giannetti will be writing manga reviews for JanaiBlog, starting soon!
Gina Giannetti is an aspiring writer who currently runs and maintains her own blog called Chu★Blog where she discusses many anime-related topics in addition to whatever else may be on her mind. You can follow her on Twitter @TheGinachu.
